About me

My name is Lisa Le Quelenec, and I am a painter and print maker originally from Jersey and now living in Bournemouth, Dorset. I came to England to study Fine Art at Falmouth College of Arts and later Southampton Institute and University Arts College Bournemouth. I paint in acrylic and watercolour and more recently have rekindled my love of printmaking, specifically etching, drypoint, monoprint and collagraph. I continue to explore how I can combine these techniques to create images that capture the essence of the subject and the influence of light on its form.

I have always lived on the coast which has strongly influenced my paintings. The pull of the wide open space to the horizon, of what lies ahead – the mystery of it excites the imagination. The illusive effects of light are a challenge to paint: just as you think you’ve captured it…. it’s gone, and only the memory remains. Capturing the effects of light and the influences of the seasons reflecting over the ocean are endless sources of inspiration.

My pockets are always filled with treasures picked up from the shore, things that have travelled and been shaped by the tide - I love to paint detailed studies recording the marks left by the sea, their sometimes faded colours, textures and patterns. These natural history illustrative paintings are sold as originals and also reproduced as greeting cards, notebooks and scarves.
